You know I get told all the time that I will not have any luck getting my teenager’s to do any work in the yard, garden, house or anywhere else. Well since we have homeschooled for the last four years I have gotten more work out of my children than I did when they were attending public schools.
I keep telling my children that I will not clean up after them because they are at the age that they can clean up their own messes. My oldest son has done an excellent job on learning how to fix the plumbing in our house with the help of my husband. My daughter has turned out to be quite the cook in the kitchen, and keeping it nice and clean. My youngest teenager does the best job which is avoiding work as much as he can (LOL).
However, he has improved on putting forth the effort when we take his games, television, and other items that he may enjoy away from him. We try to teach them that the world does not revolve around them and that they have to work hard for the things that they want out of life.
We are very protective of our children and we limit the places that they go, people they talk to, and anything else because the only thing that matters in my opinion is that they receive an education. Everything else beyond that is optional. Since we have moved they do not have many friends not because we do not want them to have friends but because they do not need to worry about fitting into the crowd right now.
There is not a shy bone in any of our children and I am sure that they will make friends when they finally make their way into the workforce. However, we do talk to them about choosing the right friends over the wrong friends. I personally, have only a handful of friends because they usually stab you in the back, talk about you when you are not there to stand up for yourself, and use you for what they can.
Some people say that I miss out on many things because I do not have friends. You know what I enjoy spending more time with my family instead of trying to fit in with the crowd. I know that I am a geek, love to learn about new things, and live my life to the fullest with the company of my family. The only ones that will stick up for you when it really comes down to it is your family.
