What are your Dreams?


Sometimes in your career you are asked to write down your dreams of what you want out of your life. It could be anything and be anything that you would want to happen in your life. It is a good question to ponder on when you get the chance to see what you would want out of your life. What would one of your dreams be to accomplish in this world. Well you know sitting here thinking about that question you find some answers that you probably would not have thought about before because honestly most people are working paycheck to paycheck with no balance in their life.

You know while she was sitting here writing about her dreams it dawned on her that most of her dreams have come true maybe a little later than she had hoped but they did come true. One of her dreams was to finish college and that happened in 2012 with a master’s degree. Another dream was to have her own home that she could call her own without having people tell her what she could or could not do. Some place where her and her family could settle down and make a life of their own. Well that happened in 2013 which was a blessing in itself.

With all the good things happening to her recently she did not know whether or not to believe that good things could happen because they have always struggled to make ends meet no matter what they situation. However, that was also about to change with all the other good things that have happened in the last year she was not looking for anything else. The job that she has wanted was just around the corner all she had to do was be persisent and go for what she wanted. Becoming a manager was the best thing that could have happened because now she does not have to struggle to make ends meet.

Now, a year later and she still loves her job to no end although there are struggles as with anything in the world of business. However, you have to overcome those struggles and pick the things that you want to go your way. You cannot win every fight but you can win some of the fights. It is a struggle to find that happy medium within the workplace. However, when you find that happy medium you should not do anything to desturb the changes that are going on.

Eventually, she wants to get to that point on where she wants to be within the next few years. She know that she wants to move up within the company and she knows that it will be a challenge to get where she wants to be within the company but she is determined to learn and eventually acheive the desired outcome that she seeks within this company. She knows that if she does the right things and shows how much she cares about the company things will work out in her favor. It is worth the wait so that she can learn all she needs to know before taking that next step into the upper business world.

A New Chapter


You know in an earlier post when she started this blog she wrote about tradeoffs that you face throughout your life. Well in addition to that article here is something else that she can add to that line of thinking.

Throughout your life you have different chapter’s some close, and some stick around for a while. However, you have to make the best of the chapter’s that you have throughout your life and make the outcome what you want it to be. Sometimes this is hard to do with everything that is going on in your life with work, children, family, and everything else that you have to do in a day’s time. Starting a new chapter in your life requires communication with your family, and discussing the outcome of the new chapter. This new chapter of life requires spending more of your time at your job and less time with your family. However, the benefits of the new chapter are what counts because it means a better life for you and your family. Now, it is your time to shine and make the most of the career that you have chosen.

Writing is another one of those chapter’s and right now it is hard to spend the amount of time that you would like on the writing and keeping the reader’s coming back to read the articles that you write. Although many reader’s understand and know that you have entered a new chapter in your life some reader’s do not want to stick around to wait for more articles because you are not posting regularly like you were earlier within the year. This is fine with her because she has a lot going on right now and with the promotion, homeschooling, and family time it does not leave enough time in the day to spend on writing.

Somewhere, along the way she has to put something aside and think about it later. She is grateful for the reader’s that are sticking with her blog and continuing to visit the articles that she has posted over the past two years. It makes her feel good that people are still reading the things that she has written about throughout the years. Advancement in her job is something that she has waited for a long time. Now, she spends her time training, and learning about new things that will help her throughout her career. She works 11 hours a day, comes home to grade papers for the day, visits with the family, and then spends some time working on things that she must study for work.

If putting off writing for a little while helps her in the conquest to making a better choice for her career then that is what it means. Periodically, she will still post a few articles however, it may take a little longer to get them finished for posting because of the tight schedule that she is on right now. She hopes that her reader’s and the future reader’s of this blog will understand the commitment to making this part of her career a success.

Going For Your Dreams


During the course of her work career she has developed the skills and knowledge that she needs to become a manager.  However it takes patience to finally get to that point in your life when you are ready and willing to take on more responsibility.  Showing and proving to your mangement team that you have what it takes to be the best manager that you can be within their company.  Striving to accomplish your dreams of making it into the next phase in your life.  This requires more work from you an long hours to accomplish the goals that you have set out in your future plans.

Life is what you make it and if you do nothing with your life you are the one to blame. You have to go for what you want and where you want your career to go. You have to be willing to take chances and hope that you are heading in the right direction. No one said that life was easy. No one said it was just going to fall right in your lap because you think that you deserve it. You have to work hard for everything that you want in your life.

Well she has finally reached that point in her life and she is happy with the outcome of her career  at this moment.  She is excited to be where she is and is looking forward to the future.  She is now a manager trainee for the company she is working for and looking forward to succeeding in everything that she does. She proves how hard she can work, she gets the job done, and everyone she works with loves the job that she does.

Keep your dreams and aspirations alive. Do not let people tell you that you cannot do the job at hand. Have confidence in yourself and go the extra mile.

Hello readers, I know that it has been a while since writing any articles. The Management World


It is not rocket science to become a manager however, it does takes patience, and some understanding to be a manager. You have to be in control of everything that goes on in your restaurant, hotel, business or whatever you are working in as a manager. You have to set the ground rules, and develop strategies to overcome obstacles that may come your way during the process of your management career. Management is not all about the paperwork it covers a variety of issues that you must find a way to deal with inside your business. It is not just about having bodies in spots to make bonuses. It is about having the right people in the right places at the right time. You have to play the part, look the part, and teach the part of being a manager.

Being a Leader

Being a leader allows you to let other’s see your performance and notate that you are not afraid to do the things that you ask others to do within your business. Employees will not respect you if you are not willing to do the work just like them. You cannot expect people to do what you want them to do if you do not have a great attitude, a great personality, and you do not show them that you are the one in charge. Management needs to delegate responsibilities to everyone instead of just a few employees. By the manager following up on the delegated responsibilities, and coaching them when they do something wrong.  Coaching employees in the right way to do something goes a long way instead of yelling, screaming or frustration from the management team.

Being a Motivator

Motivation is the key to success within any type of business. If you cannot motivate your team then you need to look at the situation and come up with a strategy that will work to motivate your team. You have to motivate your team so that they feel like they can accomplish anything that they put their minds too. If you do not motivate your team they will not take the time to do what is necessary to accomplish the goals that you have put in place. Everyone wants to accomplish something during their career. Some employees want more out of their career whether it is to move up within the company, getting a better position, getting a raise or just getting praise for a job well done. Sometimes it does not take that much to let your employee’s knows that they are doing a great job.

Leading By Example

Leading by example is sometimes hard to do because you have to separate business, and personal from each other. You cannot get too involved with your employee’s because that can lead to problems later on down the road. You cannot make rules for each person in your business. You have to keep the same rules for everyone to eliminate favoritism. Favoritism comes in all fashions for example:

  • Being out of uniform
  • Allowing employees to be late all the time
  • Call-ins from the same employees
  • Improper call-ins
  • Unsatisfactory work
  • Attitudes

When you allow these types of things from certain employees and not all employees they will not see the leadership that you are supposed to be showing to your employee’s because you are letting some get away with these things and not all. Everyone knows those leaders’ do things without questioning the reasoning behind the madness. Leaders are one of a kind because you do not find many employees who want to be leaders. You will however, find quite a few employees want to follow other employee’s in the wrong direction. When this happens they gang up with each other to see how far you will let them go with whatever they are doing.

Create a Winning Team

In order to create a winning team everyone must be on the same page. Everyone must have the same ideas, and outcomes as everyone else involved. Listening to what other employees have to say about how the business is doing. Sometimes employees have ideas to that go unnoticed because they are too busy worrying about other things. Many employee’s are worried about conversing with other employees instead of the customers. However they should focus that energy onto the customers that come into your business. Customer’s want you to make them feel like they are the only ones that matter.

Praise Your Team

Praising your team goes a long way in earning the respect that you deserve as a manager. Everyone of your employee’s serves a purpose within your business. Manager’s need to praise the employee’s for the things that they do a good job and is something that you do not see much of in the workplace. Earning respect from your fellow employee’s is a task in itself because you have to show them that you are not going to put up with certain things. By incorporating these items below into your praise of your team it will give them the confidence to do a better job. They will work towards meeting other goals instead of just settling for what they have.

Do You Have What it Takes To Be a Part of Our Team?


Although this article is good, I would have to say that these are questions that many companies ask potential employee’s that would want to work for their company. Of course, I am interested in the company or I would not have accepted the interview. So in answer to the three main questions:

Do you have the skills? Let us see here I went to college managed to graduate all three degree’s with a 3.0 or better. I have worked in numerous positions management wise. I have raised three children while attending college. (I know many people do this nowadays). However, after obtaining three degrees in Business Management and Business Administration that is not enough to obtain a job. Because I do not have experience in that field means that they will not give the job to me because they will pick the person who has experience in that field. How do you obtain the experience in that field? Well first, you have to meet someone that is willing to take a chance and give you the opportunity to obtain the experience for that field. That is hard to come by these days!

Are you enthusiastic? I go to work every day because that is what I have to do. Do I like my job? Yes! People that I work with love me because I work and I do my job. Do I motivate others? Yes! I love my job because of the customer’s that is why we are in business. The customer’s is what makes the company money. When they come into your company, establishment or business they are coming in to spend their money that they have worked hard for in return they want great customer service for the tangible or intangible items that you have with your business.

Will you fit into the team? Well you know because I have a great personality I believe that I fit into any type of team. I am what people would call a geek! I know this is on the internet however, I am who I am, and there is nothing that is going to change that. I love to learn new things. I am a leader not a follower I try to do any job with the intentions to get it done without regards to anyone else on the team. You have to work together to get something accomplished. This type of question can mean several different things if you stop and think about it. It could mean are you willing to spend an excessive amount of money and live above your means, take expensive vacations, buy the most expensive car or anything else. In my opinion, you have to be a leader and make sure that the people around you know that you are a leader.

You know for the last seven years I have been told that I have too much education, I do not have enough skills or knowledge, I am over qualified for every job that I apply for, and most of all the moment they find out I am homeschooling puts a big damper on finding the right job. I show up to work on time, I never call out, and when my schedule is changed well that is all part of it. Being in business means that you have to go beyond without regards to how it affects your life. You have to be willing to work countless hours to make sure that your employee’s are doing the job that they are required to do.

So the main question I have towards companies is what can your company do for me? Is there going to be continual learning in how your company works? I have given you a preview of what I can offer and there is more than what I have written here.

In management, how important is it to learn to use mathematics to solve problems? How valuable is an MBA degree without the ability to identify and calculate the cost of a company’s capital, its return on investment, gross margin percentage, break-even point, or what percent of a population would be willing to buy its product?

Within any business the management team should be able to solve mathematical problems throughout the business. In order to determine if the business has made any type of money the management team would have to calculate the net profit of the business. It is very important to be able to solve mathematical problems and by having a MBA without the mathematics would be a waste of time. Sure many programs out their will do the math for you or the business but how accurate can that be if someone miscalculates the number’s within those programs. Mathematical equations can be used in a variety of ways within the workplace or business.

It is important to be able to solve these mathematical equations so that the business heads in the right direction. Customer’s want to be able to trust the business with their money or other valuable assets. If the customer’s do not trust the business the customer’s are certainly not going to purchase any type of products from your business. Math is used in every part of the business world especially as a manager.

I have been a manager before and some of the math problems were done on a computer but most of the work was done by the manager. By getting the weekly numbers and daily numbers depending on sales. We would have to find the payroll percent and what sales were compared to last year’s numbers.

In business you have to use equations to find the numbers for the amount of sales that you have had for the day. At my current job you have many different things that require equations to find out the percent in sales, food cost, payroll, and operating supplies. For example the food cost is determined by a 24 hour period. If you pull the food that you need for the entire day from a certain period your food cost is determined by the amount of sales that you have for the day.

Say you have for day one 29.9, Day two; 31.4, day three; 35.5, day four; 38.7, day five; 28.9, day six; 27.5, and day seven; 29.9 the food cost percent would be 31.7 for a week. By adding these numbers together and dividing by seven you get the percent of your food cost. Now, your company may be different but many of them have to be under a certain number in order to receive their bonus for that week. The company that she currently works for requires that you have a food cost below 30.0.

Managing Risks Within a Small Business

Darin Bradshaw has recently opened a ceramic tile sales and installation business. Darin has organized the business as a sole proprietorship with six employees whom are not any relation to Darin. Darin knows that the business must have some type of insurance to cover the employees but is unsure of the various types of insurance that are available for this type of business. Darin would like an investigation done to conclude on which insurance would be beneficial to his business.
Elaborating on the small business requirements, analyzing the internal and external threats that the business must identify to minimize the possible litigation, and identify the insurance strategy that would best fit the business needs for the future growth of the business. Because of the simplicity of this business structure and that, the taxes are not paid from the business but by the owner, there is no requirement for extensive financial statements to be created (Tiwary, 2008). However, it is wise to keep accurate records in case something were to happen to Darin’s small business.
In elaborating the various types of insurance, that is available to small business
With any business, there are risks involved just to operate the business. Depending on the sizes and type of the business would need to be considered when obtaining insurance for the small or large business. Property, liability, health, disability, and worker’s compensation are all types of insurance that may be required for any type of business. Although, some small businesses like Darin’s will not have to obtain certain types of insurance because of the type of business it is. Darin’s business should be insured to the full potential just in case something happens. The risks of not having insurance would certainly not help the business if something bad were to happen. The most important insurance to have with any business is the property insurance that would cover damages, and other things that the business would need. Following OSHA guidelines such as its regulations regarding aisles and passageways will help prevent people from being injured during a visit to the company’s property (OSHA, 2009).
Darin finds that two important features of worker’s compensation are that the employer is required to pay specified benefits for economic loss to injured employees without regard to employer fault or negligence, and employees are not allowed to sue employers for injuries under tort law (Harrington, 2004). Since Darin has six employee’s he would need to invest in workman’s compensation so that his business is covered if an employee is injured. A tort is a civil wrong that affects a person or property and injuries result (Jennings, 2006). If Darin has these employee’s listed under independent contractor’s based on his profile of the business and the services that he provides. Darin may require that these independent contractors have their own type of liability insurance.
Four main types of insurance contracts that a business can choose from to protect their business in a variety of ways. Instead, policies usually require the policyholder to bear some risk. The first is coverage for policyholders’ losses from property damage and associated loss of income due to the unforeseen events. Secondly, liability covers the liability and related coverage’s of injury to third parties. Darin needs to think about his small business. If something should happen at this point he would not be covered, and would lose his business. Another type of contract would include surety bonds, and financial guarantees.
The type of business and the type of product or service will determine the factors that go into insurance decisions based on the type of business. The employee’s working for Darin could possibly get hurt on the job if Darin does not have the right type of insurance it could end up costing the business. The amount of coverage will be assessed based off the extent at which possible injuries harm, or liability issues could occur. Because of the complex liabilities, that Darin can be faced with, the type and structure of an insurance policy will determine the rate of premium paid on policies in order to limit the amount of deductible payment that would have to be paid out in the event of a lawsuit settlement. This type of contingency can diminish the growth of a business because of the necessary precautions needed for Darin’s business. In some cases, many different insurance policies are needed in many layers because of the vulnerability of risk from such lawsuits.
Although internal environment could be affected by, the benefit coverage and morale could go up or down depending on how much/less coverage an employee receives. The external environment could look for loopholes and coverage lapses in the business’ coverage and offer additional coverage to the businesses employees. Some factors that govern a small business’s insurance decisions are pricing- benefits, costs, and advantages. They have less discretion on terms of coverage and price. Small businesses are also easier to place tighter regulatory controls for business’s like Darin’s. Darin can see that there is a correlation among the level of internal risk a small business may incur and its external environment because if the external environment is aware of any malpractice or fraud going on within a company they may not patronize that business.
Furthermore, the internal risks are minimized through proper contingencies such as insurance policies that cover liability or loss of income due to accidents or legal matters within the small business. For commercial property, insurance serves as first-party coverage, which protects the business from such issues as property damage, theft, the commercial building, the business’ contents, and loss of income due to such damages. Furthermore, Commercial General Liability Insurance policies is the main form of protection that insures the business outside of what other typical policies are designed to cover. This includes injuries or damages on the business premises or from the products that Darin has within his business. Because the risk is minimized, the value of the company is protected along with its ability to conduct normal business with reassurance of liability protection.
In conclusion, for Darin’s to minimize risk further, the company can buy into surety bonds as a form of protection form contractors to insure a guarantee of a completed contracted deal. A business can also take an insurance policy on high-ranking employees or specialized employees who are of great value to the company. These methods will protect the interests of Darin’s small business in the event a legal situation arises. In any type of small business, there will be a considerable amount of risks involved with having your own business. Keeping the business safe and insured will keep the risks to a minimum.

The Stresses of the Real World


While listening to the birds chirping in the background, thinking about the upcoming stresses in her life, and wondering how things will play out in the end. She wonders how she is supposed to tell her children to go to college when it has not helped her out in the least. Countless resume’s she has sent out to numerous counties, and then no one calls and she does not hear any replies to the contrary about her skills, and knowledge. Putting your education on your resume will hurt the results because many company’s think that you will not work for the rate that they are paying. It is almost as if no one wants anyone to succeed in life. People should just stand around taking the beatings of loans; bills, working every day for the rest of your life, and watching the prices of food and other items getting higher and higher. While gas prices are starting to go down everything else is on the rise.
Well in this day and time, it is hard to keep the faith that things will work out in the end. She has spent most of her life doing things for other people and making money for them by doing the job the best that she can and with nothing in return. The future does not look to promising here in this small town. If you do not know certain people, you do not get all the goodies. In order, for you to make it in a world you have to know everyone that matters. It is a win or lose situation and if you do not know the right people and have the right connections, you will not go anywhere. In this day and time, knowing the right people can get you the job that you have dreamed of and she wonders how things will look in the future.
Throughout your life you are told that you need to have an education to get that dream job what they do not tell you is that it may take quite a long time before you finally get that dream job. Some students upon graduating have accomplished obtaining their dream job, and some students are not lucky enough and have to keep searching for that job. Furthermore, statistics are against many of the graduating students this year, and in future years because of the state of the economy. Therefore, with thousands of students who are graduating and face years of paying off student loans that increase every year, you pay on them. You could pay on these loans for years to come without little relief. There literally is no way out of student loans unless you automatically become rich overnight and can pay the entire bill off. The chances and odds are against you no matter how you look at the situation.
Talking to your college counselor’s does not do any good. She called one time to seek advice about where she should look for a job, who she could contact for resume help instead of paying more money to have someone else make your resume. The thing that you have to go through in this world is amazing. Not only paying for college on a small salary but also not being able to find a decent job in this small town that does not cost an arm and a leg to get a license. This world does not have many mentors that she would consider a mentor because many people do not want others to succeed or show them up with knowledge or skills. She knows that other people are better than she is however; she is better at some things than other people are.
With more than what feels like thirty or forty years of debt piled up against her in this dwindling economy with no new jobs being put in the economy and current jobs you have to wait for someone to quit or keel over. Sometimes it makes you wonder how people still can afford to eat out, drive their car, and other things that they like to do. It is quite amazing to see how many people still do not think that anything is going to happen. They have a surprise coming to them if they think that things are not going to get worse because they are. She knows that in the end it all works out so she keeps on working to make ends meet on the little income she brings in. Writing down everything that she does throughout the day, week, months, and years from here on out allowing her to see the accomplishments that she has made over the years. The real world and reality is that now with no jobs in the economy she has to work twice as hard to make her future dreams of having her own business become a reality.
At the end of the day, she takes her shoes off and sits back to watch the children as they watch television, and talks about the day that she had. Whom she met, and whom she talked to today. Furthermore, it seems quite interesting to listen to customers, and what actions they take to manage to make it through the rough spots throughout their life. The worries of the day are over and another dollar or two earned for the day. She will wake up in the morning and do it all over again for the rest of her life or until something finally goes her way. She has a talent for writing, and enjoys spending the quiet time talking about the things that she has accomplished and whom she has talked to during the day.
